If your house were to catch fire and you could carry out one armload, what would you choose to take and why? (Chap. 7-8)
Kaely Whittington

If my house were to catch on fire and I could only grab an armful of things I would probably grab my two cats and as many notes, letters and journals that I could find. I would make sure I would have my cats first because they both mean a lot to me and I would be devastated is something happened to them. I would be even more upset if I had grab something else instead of them because they're irreplaceable to me. The second thing I would try to grab would be as many letters, notes, and journals as I could find. Letters and notes eternalise memories, relationships, and emotions. Without them, it's easy to let things that once meant a lot to you slip your mind over time. I believe that all we really have in this world are memories and once a memory is lost, it's gone forever. If I lost all of the thing that I had ever written or had every been written for me then I'd feel like I had lost the past 16 years of my life. Any thing else in my house that burnt would be replaceable and would stop mattering to me after awhile.

I agree completely. Those are the exact things that I would take. I am a very sentimental person, and I would be far more upset by the loss of important memories than of money or material things. Once I lost my wallet, and I was distraught, not because of the money (that was my last concern), but because inside that wallet I held old concert tickets, notes, and pictures that all reminded me of amazing times in my life that I never ever wanted to forget. They held a special place in my heart; I was in tears thinking that all of those things were gone. Thankfully, whoever found it was kind enough to turn it in.

If I could only bring just an armload of things. I really doubt i would even be worrying about getting things. I would be worrying about getting eveyone out and making sure they were safe.Tthe one thing i would be worrying about is my dogs.Ii would want them out of the house. I wouuld want my electronics like my cell phone and i would probably want to save my clothes. But probably wouldnt be able to save them so i would just forget them. The main things i would worry about would be my books, my shoes, my money, my clothes, and i dont really know what else i would want to save. I just hope that I dont have to worry about that.

If my house were to catch fire and I knew that I could not put it out and had risk all my belongings beings set on fire and my family and pets were out of the house, I would first grab pictures. Pictures are not replaceable like most things in this world and photos are memories that shouldn't be taken away. Along with my pictures I would grab my laptop, so I could make sure I had access to the web and be able to still connect to all my files. I believe most things in my room can easily be replaced but I would not forget my jewelry because my lockets and rings are very special to me and being something sentimental I would not want them to burn. I just hope I will never be but in this situation where I would have to pick and choose what to keep and what to lose.

If my house were to burn, God forbid, and I could only carry one armload of things, I would carry my dog and grab the hands of my family. I would carry my dog because he is the only animal that lives inside the house with us. He is so important to my entire family because he has been through thick and thin with us.
If I took a material possession, it would be pictures. Photos are so important to me because they remind me how far I have come. I think pictures would be a huge emotional support for me. They are good reminders of what really matters.
I would make sure to have the hands of my brother, mother and father. They have supported me through my entire life. I would not, emotionally and figuratively, be able to make it out of the house without them. None of my material possessions would mean anything to me without my family to share them with me. I realize how little materials are worth compared to the people we love.
I think Miss Maudie didn't grab anything herself because she had no family in the house with her. The only important thing that she could grab was herself.
I just pray this will never ever happen.

If my house were on fire I would try to be as practical as possible. While my dog is pretty stupid, I think she would be smart enough to run out on her own once the door was open, so I don't feel the need to say I would "grab" her. The things I would grab, as far as electronics go include my phone and laptop as my life revolves around those 2 pieces of tecnology and the info saved in them. Next, I would grab my wallet. I've got alot of important stuff in my wallet, here are a few examples, $3.27, $50 Jamacan dollars, my permit which would be $50 to get replaced, my debit card, my Eagle Scout card, my lifeguard certification, and my boating license. Needless to say I don't want to loose my wallet. Next I would grab all of my important paperwork. things like my passport, bank account info, birth certificate and social securit card all seem pretty important and worthy of me grabing. Fineally, with whatever room I had left I think I would grab items of sentemental value as they will mean something to me for the rest of my life. To conclude, I just hope my house never catches on fire.

If my house were to burn down, and I was at risk to losing all of my treasured belongings, and my parents, and pets were out of the house safely, I would first grab an arm load of clothes from my closet because if we lost our house, I would need clothing to keep warm, since the last thing my mother would do is go out shopping for me right after we lose our whole house. I would also grab my laptop and camera because these items hold pictures, and memories with my loved ones which I would need to help me cope after losing my entire house. I would also grab my flute, because I couldn't be able to live without playing my flute for at least once a night. Then finally, I would grab the binder of poems under my bed that I received from my significant other because those poems are irreplaceable, and mean the entire world to me. And if I had any time left before the fire reached my room, I would run back into my room, open up my window, and begin to fling a variety of my belongings that were left in my room, outside my window. I really just hope I will never be put in that situation, though.

If my house were burning down, there would be a few things that I would grab and save. One thing is my old baseaball gloves. I have kept a few of my retired gloves in my room and they have a lot of sentimental value to me. They go back to my first days playing baseball and I would not want to lose those memories. Another item I would grab is my video camera. This item also has many memories on it that just cannot be replaced. I would not want to lose either of those item. There are a few other items including my jerseys, my other clothes, and my pictures hanging in my room that I would also like to have in the event of a fire but my gloves and my camera seem more important. I would make sure that my family was safe fist, then I would be worried about my dog, Megan, and my cat, Marzi. These are the most important things to me in my life. Material things are always replacable. You can always buy new things. But, you can not buy a new family. I do not know what I would do without my family, they are the most important things to me in life. I also agree with Emily that this why Ms. Maudie did not take anything with her. This blog got me thinking for a little while. If my home were to catch on fire and I was only able to grab a armload of items, it depends on the time of day when the fire happened. If it was during the day, I would be grabbing my bookbag for school, my cellphone to call for help once outside, my folders that hold all kinds of pictures, letters, stories, secrets, memories, drawings, etc. and I would grab my chorus medals. They are very important to me. I always have them hanging up on my wall so whenever I look at them, they remind me of all the good times and hardwork I had to do to earn them. If the fire was at night, I wouldn't be grabbing anything but my glasses. Because after that, I would be running into my sisters room and i would be picking her up out of bed because she is such a sound sleeper. I would be devastated if I ever lost my sister. After all that and I still had a chance to grab some things, then I would grab the things I mentioned above.

I would also grab my hockey sticks, since they are more likely to burn, my phone charger, since I would have to use it for internet now that we wouldn't have the luxury of that in my home since it was burned down. Also any money that we had so we could use it for food while we were waiting for our insurance company to tell us how much we would receive. And my soccer cleats because we would need to spend money on important necessities and I wouldn't have time or money to buy any.

I would the finally go for my book bag and school books because it would be really bad if they were all to burn because I would behind in school. I might also get some pictures and other family items if I can manage because somethings mean a lot to us. I would also drive my mom's BMW out of the garage because that would be ashamed if we lost that. I am thinking in the more logical way because I see money and other things of actual value are more important that family pictures because pictures don't keep a roof over your head. It is not that I do not see family possessions as important things it is that I do not see them as necessary to rebuild our lives after a fire destroys my house.

I wouldn't even worry about my phone or wallet like most said because I almost always have them in my pocket, so don't even need to think about that. Next, I would take a backpack full of clothing and then go for my shoes because I really enjoy them immensely. I wouldn't think to much about pets because like Chris said earlier they aren't that dumb, if the house is burning they will find a way out. And that is what I would grab if my house were on fire. Most of the important documents consist of legal affairs. My valuable electronics are my Xbox 360 and my phone. I need my clothes. I always loved to watch his team play and I would be more than happy to sit on the sidelines and cheer. I would try to grab as many pictures as possible. When it comes down to it though, all of those possessions are just things. Yes, they symbolize something special to us, but losing them won't take away the feelings they once gave us. I'm sure everybody loves music so I'm sure people can relate. However it's gotta be a tough choice since I have many other valuables. However lets all hope that my house doesn't catch fire so I won't have to make that decision.

If my house were to burn down I would take my teddy bear (NO SHAME.) and my cats/family. I trust my family would be able to make it out on their own. My teddy bear has been mine for 14 of the 15 years of my life. He means a lot to me, and together, we've been through a lot. I would also bring out my book of a hundred pictures of Audrey Hepburn. something about her face makes me calm.

if my house was to catch on fire i would grab my dog. And then i would grab my cat and my phone and then my phone charger. i would grab these things because i pets mean a lot to me. And i would want to pay for a new phone and then the charger cause that would suck if my phone was to die.

If could grab an armload of things out of my burning house I would take any valuable pictures of my childhood or valuable pictures in general because I love having things reminding me of my child hood, Id also take my phone, money and a clean set of clothes. Also Id grab my dog lead my family out to safety. Id take my back pack and anything for school so I can still attend school everyday, I love my music so i cant forget my ipod or any good cds. All I really care about is keeping everyone safe. My birth certificate might be important too to bring.

If my house were to catch fire and I could only carry out one armload it would definitely be personal things. I would grab the stuff my little sister sent to me from Germany and the letters I received. Our dog would come with me and I would also take my phone with me to call for help.

If my house were to catch on fire and I could only grab an armful of things I would grab my phone my wallet and pictures hanging up around the house. I think my cellphone and my wallet aren't that important but i would need them to call the firemen and identify myself. The pictures are irreplaceable, it is like tearing away a piece of yourself. when you lose stuff that means a lot to you like just that it leaves a huge hole in your heart. Other than y family being safe i would save memories because they mean a lot to me. alsoI would quickly grab a trash bag and fill it with my clothes. And the open a window and toss them out. That is if the place wasn't filled with thick black smokes or flames. Then id just climb out he window and onto the firemans ladder
