After watching the video below, respond to the idea of Scout as a role model for women (note they say women, not little girls). In what way is Scout a role model for all of us, even today... 53 years after the novel was first published?

Scout is a role model even today because she did things differently. She didn't listen to what anyone else said or what they had to tell her. She was her own person and nobody could change that. Scout wore jeans and hungout with the boys even though it was not accepted during that time. She influenced others to break the rules of society and not care what people thought about it. Scout said what was on her mind at anytime no matter who was listening or where she was. She simply did not care and no one could change that. Scout was different unlike all of the other people of Maycomb.

The way Scout sees things are from a human's point of view and that cannot be blocked by racism.

I think yes Scout is a role model for women. In the Video it says that Scout lived a life during the 1930's that women in the 1960's did not live. It Talked about how Scout was Free to do what she wanted. For example play with boys, wear pants, and basically just speak her mind freely. I think Scout is a role model For women not just because she is very open minded but because she handles situations very wisely, maybe not in the beginning of the novel but towards the middle and end. She has grown up throughout the novel, understanding the world from different people's perspectives. Scout learns from her father, teachers, and close family how to overcome obstacles and not mix up courage with strength. She built up her character from her past and what she learned through the good and evil of others (I can relate to that). I've learned a lot from others, and now I look up to them. Whether good or bad we all learn from others. I also think Scout is a role model because she is very mature for her age. And even though the novel is told from a 6-year-old girl's point of view, it sounds more of an older aged person. So I think Many people can relate to Scout in one way or another. No matter how old someone is they always look up to someone and watch everything they do. Basically learn from their actions.

Scout's indifference towards people's race and social class is something to admire. She is a role model because she doesn't care what people think of her and she won't let anyone tell her she can't do something. Scout's drive for equality, which comes from her innocence, is definitley a characteristic to look up to. She refused to listen to Aunt Alexandra when she called Walter trash. Scout sees people's actions rather than their color or social class. Scout goes against what society has planned for her, and I think that is why she is a role model. Scout takes control of her life instead of letting someone else make her decisions. Scout breaks down the boundaries that are set up because of her gender.

I agree with Maria about why Scout is such a role to women. I also believe it is because in the novel Scout gains wisdom beyond her years and she is looked up to for this.

Scout Finch of the inspiring novel "To Kill a Mocking Bird" is one of if not the most inspirational female charecter ever in a novel. Scout Finch in a time of racism and inequality focused on what she thought was right. Scout lived her life to the fullest from wearing what she wanted to wear (overalls) and doing what she wanted to do (fight), It was clear that Scout did not judge people according to race or wealthiness. Scout looked at people for who the were and not what they had, for this reason she is and will always be a female inspiration. In the novel "To Kill a Mocking Bird" Scout is seen as a Tom boy and different then everyone else but truely she was just a one of a kind and that is another reason why she is and will always be a inspiration.

I believe Scout is a role model for women then and even today. She always spoke her mind and wasn't afraid to be herself. Even though many kids are this way, back in the 1930's this was the the case for little girls to do. Scout wore jeans because she wanted to and did not even care that her aunt was completely against it. I have taken into consideration of the things she has done and thought about doing things I want to do, not what others want me to do. I think she is very inspirational to everyone that has read this book. She is learning new things and without girls like her, women may have never had the opportunities they do today. As shown in the video, she was different than all the other kids, but she would not have had as many experiences if she was not this way.

I agree with Nicole because I think Scout just wasn't afraid to be who she was. I think many people today could learn a lesson from her because so many people are afraid to be who they really are because they are scared of what people might think of them.

I think that scout is a role model to many women. Some women are scared to speak their mind freely and scout does just that. Scout doesnt care what other people have to say or what they think, she is still going to speak her mind either way. Scout dresses the way she wants. Some girls are scared to do that because they want to fit in. but scout is the opposite.

Scout set the precedent for women at the time and over the many years to come. Scout was fearless and didn't follow the social standards. Women at the time wouldn't dare to attempt the things Scout did like wear pants and especially not speak their minds. Women over time have gained the courage Scout had to break the social standards and Scout's character certainly had a part in the movement.

scout is a role model to me and probably to everyone else because she stood up for her father she was 6 years old with a 25 year old mature mind she would speak honestly and tell you how she felt. she wuld speak her opinion on everything she was her fathers girl thats for sure she never was affraid to stand up for what she believed in she was a all natural child who spoke her mind.

i see scout as a role model because she sees thing differently then i would. She is very grown up about her opinions and has really changed from this young child to this grown adult mind. you see this when the trial is going on how she is asking questions and when she is told that they jury already knows hes guilty they just want everyone to think that they have put some time into this decision. which i feel really opened up her opinion on the town and how she really starts to see the difference between good and evil.

Personally, Scout has become a part of the people i admire. She has extraordinary characteristics that may influence women all over the world to stand up for what they believe in, to have no care about what people think about your ideologies, basically be themselves. Im pretty sure this is what most people, including women, struggle with especially in today's world. Scout doesnt care about what people think about her clothes, her interactions with the opposite gender, her nonfemine actions. She just does her and thats what i love about her. She is similar to the russian author, Ayn Rand, who wrote "Atlas Shrugged" and "The Fountainhead." What makes it even more fascinating is that she's very young. Usually younger people look up to older people and try to follow in their footsteps and imitate what they do. Scout is admirably different.

I feel that scout is a role model to us and women because not all people can say that they can go through everything she has been through and still be the strong person that she is. She lost her mother at a young age. She lives with her father who barely plays with her as a child. She had to get disciplined by some woman who isn't her mom. She gets judged by her aunt. Personally I think she is a very smart strong willed little girl and we all can learn something from her!

Scout is a great role model for women even though she is a child. her personality is outgoing, and she isnt afraid to stand up for herself. she doesnt care what you think about her, she will do what she wants and how she wants. Women of the 1960 were insecure and afraid to be unique. Scout is unique and she is proud of it. When ever a women doubts their abilities, they should think of Scout and how she would try her hardest to do her best.

Scout is definitely one of the most inspiring role models, not only for women but for everyone. She is a 6-year-old girl that wears pants, not a dress, she speaks her mind, and she fights boys in school. Scout does things she is not supposed to do. She also helps her dad and brother out whenever they need help. She is very mature for her age what makes people look up to her.

Scout is a good role model for not just woman but every gender simply because she's human. All human are entilied to all the natural John Locke rights. In our preamble of the consitution it says that all men are created equal. In the word women there is the suffix men and there is no idication of the color of your skin. So if we look at Scout she is the collection of all the wise forefathers of this great democracy, America. However democracy is used lightly. Woman and other races were not guaranteed the same rights as white men. What makes a white man more special than a black man or woman. Nothing is the answer, Scout knows the answer to that question and those that know the answer are the ones that shine in society.

Scout is a great model for people now and for people before. She speaks her mind, and doesn't care what others think of her. She doesnt fit in to the crowd per say. Woman i her time were not "allowed" to use pants because of what society thought. Scout didn't care what people thought. She and her family did not also agree with the lifestyle from the people of Maycomb. They were not racist or a segregationist family they have principles and human ethics. Scout is a role model to many women because of the way she acts and the impact she has on the people around her she is very mature an she stands for what she believes in.
